One of the global leaders in vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communication chipsets, Autotalks, has joined the Connected Motorcycle Consortium (CMC) and will work with other members to help realize the vision of a uniform platform for vehicle-to-motorcycle (V2M) communications.

Although most of the connected vehicle research worldwide has been focused on vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) or vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) communications to improve road safety, one of the most vulnerable groups of road-users has been somewhat neglected. According to World Health Organization (WHO) data from 2015, 23% out of 1.25 million worldwide traffic fatalities was a motorcycle rider.

A 2013 study conducted by the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) indicated that motorcyclists have a 26-fold higher risk of death than those who drive other vehicles. Autotalks, together with other CMC members, will now work together to further enhance Cooperative-Intelligent Transportation Systems (C-ITS) applications in motorcycles in a way that will help minimize accidents for two-wheeled road-users.
