Jaguar Land Rover's Range Rover Sport will be the automaker's first plug-in hybrid.

The P400e version of the luxury SUV goes on sale immediately, kick-starting JLR's electrification push.

The company said last month it plans to offer a hybrid or full-electric version of every new model launched starting in 2020.

The plug-in hybrid Range Rover Sport combines a 300-hp 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with a 114-hp electric motor. A 13.1 kWh lithium ion battery is positioned under the floor of the trunk and can be charged in 45 minutes using a 32-amp wallbox-style charger or seven and a half hours with a standard household plug.

The car can travel 50 km (31 miles) on electric power alone and emits 64 grams of carbon dioxide per kilometer, according the European NEDC rating.
