Brainport

A mission to highlight what the Netherlands has to offer in smart and green mobility to key US partners, will take place October 20-26, 2016 as part of the S4C programme.

Brainport Eindhoven Region, together with STORM Technical University Eindhoven and the Coast to Coast Smart e-Mobility programme (S4C), is organizing a working visit and economic mission to Columbus, Ohio; Washington DC and New York City.

The City of Columbus is of particular interest because it was chosen in June 2016 as winner of the American ‘smart city challenge’, and will be investing 140 million dollars in smart and clean mobility in the next few years.

After a visit to Eindhoven at the start of October 2016, these contacts will now be further strengthened with a return visit to policy makers, companies and universities. The goal is to bring the Brainport Eindhoven Region into the spotlight and begin collaborating on projects, thus creating opportunities for Dutch companies. For this reason, Brainport and the Automotive Campus will sign a Letter of Intent with Ohio State University, for expert exchanges, student exchanges, and joint planning with the City of Columbus.

Growth opportunities for automotive industry
The automotive sector forms an important area of interest and economic support in the municipality of Helmond and the Brainport Eindhoven Region as a whole. Brainport is exploring various opportunities to better internationally position regional automotive companies and the Automotive Campus with a specific international programme.

Research by AutomotiveNL shows that most opportunities for growth in the automotive industry are to be found in the US, Canada and France. For this reason, a Brainport delegation executed a fact-finding visit to Canada and Columbus in June 2016. This has led to the preparation for further cooperation with Columbus, and use of the STORM electric motorcycle around-the-world tour as a starting point for a comprehensive working visit by various regional representatives from the automotive sector.

Vice mayor from Helmond, Jos van Bree, will act as delegation leader during this working visit and the events organized around the STORM tour. Van Bree is the administrative representative of the Automotive Campus in Brainport and the automotive sectorin The Netherlands, and Board Member of the cluster organization of the Dutch automotive industry.
