Fastned, the Dutch fast charging operator, has won a second tender in the UK from the North East Joined Transport Committee. It includes the installation of five fast charging sites in Gateshead, Blyth, Whitley Bay, Washington and Kingston Park, each equipped with two 50 kW charging stations.

The Dutch company will also operate the charging stations using 100% renewable energy. While Fastned has been actively expanding on the European mainland, with a current total of 88 charging stations in operation in Germany and the Netherlands, this marks their first business in the UK. They do not plan to stop there, however, as CEO Michiel Langezaal adds: “Fastned has the ambition to build a European network of 1000 fast charging stations and aims to build more fast charging stations in the UK.”
